Signs & Symptoms of Failing Hip Implants

Late in 2010 DePuy Orthopaedics initiated a recall of two models of hip implants. The hip implant recall affects the DePuy ASR™ Acetabular System, which is for total hip replacement, and the DePuy ASR™ Hip Resurfacing System. DePuy Orthopaedics is a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, and has been beset by defective products problems and quality control issues.

If you are the recipient of a DePuy hip replacement, contact one of our hip implant lawyers today for information on lawsuits resulting from the hip recall.

Metal-on-Metal Problems

Both DePuy ASR™ systems that are subject to the hip implant recall are dangerous because of the metal-on-metal friction within the joint. The grinding produces microscopic metal shavings, which get loose in the body. The debris causes inflammation and tissue damage. The loose metal debris created by the DePuy ASR systems also poison the body.

The nervous system, brain, heart and kidneys are all impacted by the metal ions generated by the DePuy ASR models. The symptoms of metal poisoning which led to the hip implant recall include fatigue, shortness of breath, and problems with hearing and vision.

Signs of Failing Hip Implants

In addition to metal poisoning, the DePuy hip implants are known to fail much earlier than normal. Some patients have experienced breakage of the hip systems, causing severe pain and bone fractures. Signs of a failing DePuy ASR™ implant include:

  • Pain in the hip, leg, or lower back
  • Swelling in the hip
  • Reduced flexibility and decreased range of motion
  • Difficulty standing or walking

Symptoms of Hip Implant Failure

Hip implant lawyers are fighting for the rights of the people who are injured by these products. When a hip implant fails, patients will likely require revision surgery to fix the broken implant. Revision surgery can be painful and more debilitating than initial hip surgery.

Our attorneys are investigating claims on behalf of hip implant patients, to ensure they receive compensation to cover a second surgery as well as the pain and suffering they’ve experienced.

Contact a Defective Hip Implant Attorney

Our hip implant attorneys are ready to fight for your rights. If you have already had a revision surgery for your DePuy hip replacement, or are just now beginning to experience hip implant problems, our hip implant lawyers can help.

DePuy Orthopaedics has offered to pay for revision surgeries as part of the hip implant recall, but our attorneys will be able to fight for compensation that also includes money for your pain and suffering. Contact one of our hip implant attorneys today to schedule a free evaluation of your case.
