Minnesota DePuy Hip Implant Lawyers

DePuy hip implants — specifically the ASR™ Hip Resurfacing and ASR™ XL Acetabular systems — were recalled in August 2010 after having been implanted in roughly 40,000 patients in the U.S. between August 2005 and the recall date. Understandably, many patients and families are concerned about the recall and the overall quality of the DePuy hip implants. Our Minnesota hip implant lawyers are quite knowledgeable regarding the safety of these products and can answer all your questions.

Hip Implant Failure Signs and Symptoms

When a hip implant starts to fail (especially the all-metal artificial hips), there are symptoms and signs of failure, such as:

  • swelling around the hip
  • the development of difficulty getting up, walking, and/or standing
  • constant pain

If you're experiencing adverse symptoms such as these, it's time to contact your physician.

DePuy, Part of Johnson & Johnson

DePuy was founded in the late 19th century by a man named Revra DePuy, the inventor of a fiber splint for fractured bones. The company expanded to cover many types of medical appliances for orthopedic use, and in 1998 the giant healthcare corporation Johnson & Johnson acquired DePuy to be part of its Medical Devices & Diagnostics Group.

In April 2011, DePuy agreed to merge with Synthes, the world's largest manufacturer of implants for bone fractures.

DePuy Hip Implant Lawsuits

The Synthes-DePuy merger shows that the massive DePuy hip implant recall hasn't hurt the company much. Over 3,000 lawsuits based on hip implant failures have been initiated across the U.S., and many more are expected. The lawsuits seek financial compensation for the damages wrought by unsafe or faulty hip implants, such as:

  • lost income from missed work
  • medical bills — for further surgery, for rehabilitation, for pain medication, etc.
  • long-term nursing care
  • inability to live a pain-free or normal life
