New Jersey DePuy Hip Implant Attorneys

DePuy hip implant attorneys are helping New Jersey residents who have been impacted by defective DePuy hip implants — the DePuy Orthopedics' " ASR™ XL Acetabular System" or the DePuy " ASR™ Hip Resurfacing System."

These artificial hip systems have been found to produce an unacceptably high rate of complications such as:

  • grinding and popping sensations in the hip
  • difficulty walking, standing and moving about
  • swelling around the implant
  • constant pain

These two hip systems have been implanted in tens of thousands of patients, many of whom have been obliged to undergo additional surgery to replace their hip implants — some successfully, some not.

The DePuy Hip Implant Recall

In 2010, DePuy issued a worldwide recall of the two ASR™ hip implant systems mentioned above. DePuy and the FDA were aware of data regarding the ASR™ hip implants from the National Joint Registry (NJR) of England and Wales. The NJR found that 1 of every 8 patients who received a DePuy ASR™ hip implant had to undergo revision surgery within five years of their implant surgery. This is a 12.5 percent failure rate — significantly and alarmingly higher than the accepted failure rate for hip implants, which is 5 percent.

The FDA is acutely aware now of the DePuy hip implant issues. In addition, thousands of lawsuits have been initiated against DePuy based on hip implant failures; so many lawsuits, in fact, that multidistrict litigation to handle the cases had to be arranged.
